Tomoyuki Taniguchi
CEO Nippon Data Corporation
|
The founder of Nippon Data Corporation and chief manager of Nippon Data International Group. He started his own business while in high school developing computer software. He eliminated vertically divided management functions at the time of deploying business abroad. He values a flat structure relationships with his staff and related companies and flat structure management for business development. He evaluates a great number of system designs from the viewpoint of a software engineer and also an executive officer and has experiences in consulting. He was born in Oji, Kita-ku, Tokyo in July 1969.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the company, the head office was moved to Kita-ku, Tokyo with the consideration of community-based business contribution. He doubled as member of "Tokyo Kita-ku Ward Office Regional Information Vision Exploratory Committee" as well as director of "Kita-ku Communities Information Technology Promotion Association". Through those experiences, community-based industry, which is global and also local, has become increasingly valued. Local revitalization, such as foundation of "Sasebo Communities Information Technology Promotion Association" has been developed as a result.
Domestic business is not large when compared with world business in scale. There is a big difference in awareness. For instance, one of our main businesses is M&A. This stands for merger and acquisition. In Japan, even if your company has great technologies and products, you may fail in your marketing and selling strategy. You most likely refuse to accept support from other companies and will not fully understand why it went wrong. This is because accepting M&A offer in Japan is regarded as failure in business. Out side Japan, however, this is not the case. They view it as "Our efforts are acknowledged as good ones."
We have re-arranged our management systems to the holdings company - we have changed our strategy from vertical hierarchical power structure under Nippon Data as the central firm to flat power structure under the holdings company. This change was introduced to eliminate vertically divided organisation and to attach a greater importance on flat power structure management.
We believe maintaining this flat structure provides equal opportunities for enterprises and individuals with good technologies and ideas to acheive success as our partners. Factors which distract our partners from committing their primary duties, such as management foundation, financial ground, legal work and human resource issues and miscellaneous duties, are taken care of by the holdings company. Partners, therefore, are able to focus on their own assignments. We have no doubt about this result by supplying with M&A. Partners are there not being controlled under us but are taking a leading role in their performance. This is why we advocate "United Technologies" and a important policy of forming a group.
Individual functions may be small. The power exists in relationship of trust as the base of strong partnership. This is not a business chain. This "fellowship" is what we aim for and we think this is the greatest benefit.
